Celebrate the Holiday Season Miami Style
‘Tis the season for holiday cheer, and though you won’t be celebrating a white Christmas here in Miami, our beautiful city has no shortage of yuletide spirit. Here are a few happenings around town we think you’ll enjoy:
1 | Once the estate of renowned businessman James Deering, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, located in Coconut Grove, is a stunning example of Mediterranean Revival architecture. With its lush gardens and over seventy rooms filled with spectacular art and furnishings, the Vizcaya Museum is worth visiting any time of year. During the month of December, the entire estate is decorated for Christmas as Deering himself would have done a century ago.
2 | One of the most beloved ballets ever composed, The Nutcracker is on stage all month at the Miami City Ballet. This world-class company indulges unique flourishes in their performance while scrupulously observing the timeless splendor of Tchaikovsky’s music and Balanchine’s inimitable choreography.
3 | If you’re not in the mood for the full ballet, you can hear highlights from The Nutcracker, along with many other holiday favorites both classical and contemporary, at the New World Symphony’s Sights and Sounds of the Season concert the evening of Friday, December 15. Founded by maestro Michael Tilson Thomas, The New World Symphony is an internationally acclaimed ensemble composed exclusively of young musicians newly emerged from the world’s premier conservatories and schools of music.Read other posts
