Rollerblade the Boardwalk

What images come to mind when you think of Miami Beach? The leaves of palm trees softly swaying in the wind? The waves of a clear blue ocean gently lapping against the shore of a white, sandy beach? A hot sun and a cloudless blue sky? Under the palm trees, under the sun, and alongside the beach, I see rollerbladers. They glide down a paved pathway in neon tank tops and compression shorts. Some where helmets. Some cruise casually in Oakleys or Ray-Bans, their bronze bodies covered in a sheen of sweat and exertion. Those images come from movies, television shows, commercials, and pop music videos that were filmed at the Miami Beach Boardwalk, also known as the South Beach Boardwalk, one of the city's most iconic and photographed destinations. You too can feel like you're in the movies. The boardwalk is free, and bikes and rollerblades are available to rent, if you're so inclined. Compression shorts are optional, but sunglasses are a must.

The scenic boardwalk is bordered by beauty on both sides. To the East is the pristine, sun bleached beach and the calm, warm Atlantic ocean, on which luxury yachts bob and world class speed boats fly by. To the West are the luxurious and lavish landmark hotels in classic Miami art deco architecture. The Miami Beach Boardwalk is as popular with the locals as it is with travelers. It begins at Indian Beach Park -- 46th Street and Collins Ave. From Trump International Beach Resort, Indian Beach Park is less than a half hour's drive straight down scenic A1A. The boardwalk continues south to 23rd Street where it becomes a paved surface. The paved portion of the boardwalk runs down the Ocean Drive Promenade to 5th Street.

Whether you're looking for sunrise exercise, a romantic sunset stroll, or just looking to burn a few calories after brunch, the Miami Beach Boardwalk is the perfect spot to soak up that movie magic feeling.
